I appreciate the plight of any rational blogger in this election cycle. What else is there to say about the Obama campaign then that it is sheer, unadulterated madness? If you cannot make jokes about a candidate with absolutely zero qualifications and a character to match, what CAN you do?

Tim, you are entitled to your opinion, and to your own interpretation of selective facts. Other facts are not going to persuade you because they do not fit your pre-defined narrative. But I have to try.
Something like 65% of Americans take capital gains. The top 1% of income earners pay 35% of the taxes. You can't get a job from a poor guy. There is a corporate tax rate at which it doesn't pay to stay in business, but it does pay to move the whole operation overseas, where taxes are lower. Estate taxes are double taxes, and they are not fair. US history is proof that most fortunes are dissipated within a couple of generations, so there is no need to give the government more money to produce this unfair "fairness" through the estate tax.
CEO's get paid what they get paid because somebody agreed to pay them that for their services. You could get rich, too, if you could do what the CEO does. Businesses don't pay taxes, never did, never will. Taxes are paid by their customers, or by their shareholders (the vast majority of Americans) taking less in dividends. If you haven't noticed, the lower-taxing nations are already eating our lunch. If you think we've got economic problems now, tell me how it will be when we have no businesses or corporations at all. Government doesn't produce anything, and cannot give you anything that it doesn't first take from somebody else. Your man Obama promises to be the Prince of Thieves.

Well, that's certainly a gloomy outlook consistent with the pathos of the 9/11 remembrances. Worse, in my opinion, is that when both sides come together in the mourning for the 9/11 victims, they are both wrong. Yes, mourning is OK, but where is the ANGER that should be directed at the perpetrators and their still-extant murderous ideology? Can we have some balance, here?
I am also a bit disappointed that, while you correctly and lucidly point out the great political schisms in our society, you seem to have no solutions. Not that I have any, either, but from my viewpoint there is a straightforward solution: electing conservative political leadership top to bottom, and pushing government back to its legitimate role. Liberals cannot achieve their ends-- the control of as much of your life as possible-- without political power, and their sole interest, it seems, in promoting cultural division and politicizing absolutely everything is to regain that political power. How else to explain their deranged prattling that Bush was responsible for 9/11, and simultaneously that he has made America /less/ safe since then?
I think it's important, in these "culture wars," to recognize the axiom that "it takes two sides to make a peace, but only one side to make a war."

Barack Obama is incapable of "handling problems"; he can barely find an issue position he likes. HE simply commands these problems to go away, like casting out devils, and sometimes the magic works, sometimes it doesn't. But the more it becomes obvious that he is not Mr. Inevitable, the beloved Master of the Universe, the more voters will desert him in November, and that would be to Hillary's liking, making her the frontrunner for the nomination in 2012. Look for her to play coy for a bit longer, and then strike.

McCAIN IS TOO OLD TO BE PRESIDENT
I think the choice of VP will be incredibly important for the McCain candidacy. It should be a conservative, likable individual with executive experience, young enough to succeed McCain in 1, 2, 4 or 8 years as needed, on a moment's notice. I'm a bit concerned that there is only one person out there, IMHO, that meets those qualifications.

Sorry, but there is no comfort here. If it becomes Obama's war, it is a war lost, with great and tragic consequences all around. I do not want Obama for even one term. The desire to say "I told you so" has to be subordinated, in this case, to "How stupid can you be!?"
Not sure the war would be "lost" except that Obama would hand de facto control of our redeployment over to the Iraqis who could then very well "lose" whatever gains have been made.

Tell the rest of the world to go pound salt. If they don't want our dollars for their goods, or our goods and services, they can do without. Sometimes you, and they, cannot get everything you want. You can have the cookie or you can complain that Gramma smells funny, but not both.
Other than that, I don't know what all the questioning is about. Obama is a modern liberal, irretrievably believing in his own intellectual and moral superiority over everybody. He thinks he can talk absolutely everybody into absolutely anything because he is absolutely right about absolutely everything. The first time he comes up against the real world instead of his delusional alternate universe, though, is the first time the US will find itself with a problem. It will be very early in his Presidency, and there will undoubtedly be more, and often, though the degree of damage can only be imagined.
